Under the New Covenant, is it God's will for His enemies on earth to be destroyed? For example, should mosques be burned to the ground and all the servants of Allah be slaughtered as were the priests of Baal by Elijah? Or is that too extreme? Can the burning of the Qurans be analogous to the statue of Dagon being fallen on it's face with its head broken off in front of the Ark of the Covenant or Jesus turning over the money tables in the temple?
One thing is for sure, as Christians we should not be afraid or ashamed to state that Allah is false and Christ alone is the Son of God. However, we can do this without burning copies of the Quran. Jesus' last commandment to His disciples was to go and make more disciples. This would suggest that even Muslims should be included in this outreach. Would Jesus have participated in this event or would He have spent that time preaching His resurrection to the Islamic community instead?
General Petraeus is accurate in his prediction that Muslim radicals will use the demonstration as fuel for their fire. Most likely the troops overseas will see an increase in fighting and the terrorists will have even more reason to attack the "infidels." Instead of this being an "act of love," it will be viewed as a hate crime. To not burn the Quran doesn't mean that Christians are being tolerant, sometimes it's just a matter of being smart.
